So, in the light of the recent LJ kerfuffle about their updated TOS, and several people and comms moving to an only or primarily Dreamwidth mode, I decided to make an account here too. Don't worry, I don't intend to vanish from LJ! But if nothing else, it's always good to have a back-up I think... And since Dreamwidth enables automatic crossposting (which I am testing with this post), I'll be using that to keep everything on both sites up-to-date.

Now, in the spirit of 'different website, same elen', a meme borrowed as ever from [personal profile] lost_spook!

Send me two characters or more (pairing or otherwise) and a prompt number and I’ll write a ficlet:

Do I even need the 'borrowed from [livejournal.com profile] lost_spook' note anymore? ;)

Give me a character/pairing and I will write snippets of ten different alternate universes for it. One line, ten lines, a ficlet if you're lucky.

Wild West
Coffee Shop
. . . In SPACE!!
Born Another Gender
Urban Fantasy

Meme borrowed from [livejournal.com profile] lost_spook who made this version, originally from [livejournal.com profile] 500themes :)

STEP ONE: Match a pairing/character/crossover characters to a prompt. *
STEP TWO: Repeat STEP ONE as many times as you want. **
STEP THREE: Wait patiently. ***

* If I know it, I'll attempt to write it; if I don't I'll let you know and you can pick something else. Anything that has a "fandom" tag here is probably good, or anything you've seen me mention here / on tumblr / etc. And feel free to take a shot at any canon, really. Variety is the spice of life and all that :)

** Use common sense, please! Keep it to, um, under or around 10 prompts per person? (I won't cry if you've got 13, I might if you've got 50 :P) Ideally don't duplicate other people's choices (I'll be updating the post as people comment), but if you absolutely fall in love with a prompt that someone's already asked for, go for it.

*** I make no promises about how fast / in what order things will be written! But the meme looks fun, and it is the holidays.

End of footnotes! Go! Read prompts! Pick prompts! Comment!

18 – Where do you get the most inspiration for your fics (aka "bunnies") from?

I have no idea! With prompt challenges, part of it is obviously taking the prompt and turning it over and over in my head, but other than that... I think I’ve had a couple from people’s reviews sometimes? Or simply thinking about the canon, and part of my brain going "hmm, I wonder what happened between these events / where x was while we focussed on y / why z did that?", and having to write fanfic to answer myself.

(And since I've mentioned prompt challenges, would you like to see my latest work at [livejournal.com profile] fan_flashworks?  /shameless self promotion disguised as comm promotion :P Seriously, fun comm is fun, you should take a look! )

19 – When you have bunnies, do you sit down and start writing right away, or do you write down the idea for further use?

It depends. If I’m actually on the computer, or not doing anything, I’ll start writing right away. Otherwise I just keep thinking them over so as to be sure I don’t forget them, and sometimes (especially if I was trying to get to sleep before the bunny hit) I’ll start "writing" it in my head. And then get immensely frustrated when I can't remember exactly what it was I'd "written" :P

20 – Do you ever get bunnied from other people's stories or art in the same fandom?

Well, all my [livejournal.com profile] daydverse fic is inspired by the daydverse itelf. Other than that, I can’t think of any...

17 – Titles – Are they the bane of your existence, or the easiest part of the fic? Also, if you do chaptered fic, do you give each chapter a title, or not?

Bane of my existence, definitely! I tend to stare at the screen for ages trying to come up with something even vaguely original. There’s a reason why my prompt challenge S&A fics have the prompt as their title! I’m not above begging/bargaining with/bullying my sister into giving me a hand with titles and summaries, either ;) I’ve yet to write a chaptered fic... I suppose I might title the chapters, but there’s no guarantee.

I made a Writing Masterlist! :)

It took about two hours, but quite a bit of that was crossposting to AO3. I'm growing fonder and fonder of that site, it's just so much easier to post there than ff.net - no uploading documents first, no vanishing section breaks... If I'd been crossposting to ff.net, it would have taken a lot longer.I was actually surprised to realise that just under half my fics were on LJ... I'll have to crosspost the rest [don't worry, I'll do it gradually so as not to spam your f-list ;)]

Something odd I noticed - ff.net's wordcount is consistently 100-200 words higher than Word, AO3 and online wordcount sites. Weird...

Now, on to a little wittering about my writing processes, which I'm sure you'll find fascinating :P
I appear to have suddenly acquired a taste for writing tv show fanfic. I've always read a lot of it, but the Big Bang Theory one I posted yesterday was the first one I've written. I think it's at least partly because when writing fanfic for books, I like to try and match the narrative tone to canon - which is not so easy with non-written media. And looking back at yesterday's fic, it is mainly dialogue, which fits into my "match orginal's tone" style. (This does not, however, explain the highly introspective The Mentalist fic I'm working on for the "anywhere but here" [livejournal.com profile] fan_flashworks challenge... which I suppose explains why it's driving me up the wall). Still, variety is good :)

...And I just realised there's stuff on the daydverse comm that I've never crossposted anywhere. *headdesk* Time to do that. (No I'm not procrastinating on studying, why would you think that??)
