For the podcast, you still might be able to get in on the one with PFW Ryan. If not, Than is trying to get as many people involved as possible, so there should be other opportunities.
About unions, yes they sometimes get out of hand. Our local subway/underground/whatever-you-call-it system employees threatened to go on strike recently, so one newspaper posted their salaries on its webpage: http://www.contracostatimes.com/ci_12682351 Don't you now wish you worked as a subway janitor? :) (Even the "Irrigation/Grounds Workers" get about 80,000$ a year.)
