A new fic meme!

As ever, [personal profile] thisbluespirit is keeping me provided with memes - here's the latest: Tell the world one (1) fact/anecdote/secret/etc about each of the last ten (or whatever) things you wrote.

Dust Bath (High Rollers DnD (Web Series))

I was very pleased with myself over the ending line (it's my blog and I shall brag if I want to :P) - I've written enough Quill/Lucius friends-to-lovers that it can get tricky to find endings that don't seem repetitive, but I feel this one works really well with Lucius having just accidentally turned himself into an aarakocra and being a bit (or a lot) lost with it, and Quill being a cleric of a knowledge god.

He likes my company, right? (High Rollers DnD (Web Series))

The title is a quote from Quill that lived in my head rent-free since he said it... Quill's gained a lot in self-confidence from the start of the show to now, but you still get moments like this where you can really see our poor birdie's issues - and my immediate reaction is always "fic where Lucius reassures him about it (and they kiss)".

Different dinner, same chaos (High Rollers DnD (Web Series))

Some days you spend hours fretting about the perfect title, some days you just go "to hell with it, the core of this fic is that I wanted even more dinner party chaos, this time with extra shipping" XD

Return to Greybell (High Rollers DnD (Web Series))

Can you imagine if Grunka had been in that final fight and seen the stunts Reynard pulled? I think she'd have exploded from sheer rage! I had so much fun with Elora dropping Reynard into it - and let's be honest, even if she hadn't he'd have boasted about it sooner rather than later, Elora just expedited things.

Find the happiness I seek (High Rollers DnD (Web Series))

I had been feeling a bit guilty at never writing Nova/Thalia - I think they're adorable, I was just stuck for ideas! And then this one came along :) Bonus secret: the google doc for it has remained open, because I am still toying with the idea of a Quill/Lucius second chapter or sequel...

Better Judgement (Chalet School - Elinor M. Brent-Dyer)

It had been a while since I wrote CS fic! I did a re-read recently, they were the perfect anti-stress reads for the pandemic and moving continents, and I realized I missed Nell and Hilda, my darlings <3 And doing a full re-read, the contrast between Hilda re the Balbinis and Nell with Jacynth struck me - even as they were different situations and it's hard not agree with both of them in the context.

Draw Me Like One Of Your Gusthaven Boys (High Rollers DnD (Web Series))

One of the few fics where I did not suffer for a title, I had this one in mind from the start! Also, I was very amused by being specifically reminded of the (NSFW) Q&A section that inspired it - I am a 99% gen writer, yet somehow in the HR fandom I have also become the writer people go to for this, lol. I take no blame for it, this is entirely Trott and Tom's fault :P

The Case of the Switched Suitcases (The Red House Mystery - A. A. Milne)

That rarest of things from me, a fic with a bit of actual plot - the wonders of Yuletide :P I went through a lot of iterations of how exactly the theft had happened and how to resolve it! At one point there had been no intentional theft at all, at another Bill's solution was how they resolved it... But I liked how I finally wrote it, and so did the recipient luckily.

Doubt Truth to be a Liar (High Rollers DnD (Web Series))

I wasn't going to write this! I rambled about fake dating concepts in the group chat specifically to get it out of my head enough that I wouldn't feel tempted to write it, because I had no plot, just pining and chaos... and now here it is, my longest damn solo fic - and it still has no real plot beyond pining and chaos, lol. I will also take this opportunity to ramble a bit about how I write multi-chapter fics - these days, I basically have the whole thing written before I start posting it, so I can post reasonably consistently... but I remember the first ones I wrote, back on Lime Green Musings (Chalet School fic forum), I always had an outline but was generally writing as I went, and sometimes the feedback from people changed the outline! I think maybe it was partly because of the forum format, fic writing felt a lot more... conversational, maybe? with the updates interspersed with the comments? And also probably the site culture, it was (is?) fairly common for writers to post short updates (which they might later gather several of into one chapter on the fic archive), and for the readers to speculate on where they thought the story was going. I kind of miss that...

Seat of his Trousers (Swallows and Amazons - Arthur Ransome)

For a 500-word fic, there's a remarkable amount of my WWII headcanons here - Roger in the RAF, Susan losing her husband, Titty as a naval nurse, Nancy doing something mysterious... I also enjoyed doing a bit of Roger and Peggy working together to try and cheer people up - they don't always interact much, but I think they do have some similarities of character.

Aw, glad you're getting ideas out of your CS re-read - and to provide memes for stealing!!
