I am so sorry this is so late. I actually read the story a while ago, but never got around to commenting. Silly life, being so hectic...
I've seen cryptic crosswords before, but not ones that offered prizes. Interesting...I could never finish one, though. Way too hard.
there again, most people had the sense not to piss off the Chief Constable. Twice. This makes me wonder what he did to piss off his boss. t sounds like he has a history of doing that. ;)
“Eh, it’d just run its course, you know?” he said nonchalantly. Wow, he's really calm about it. It makes me wonder whether it really wasn't that important to Jack, or if he's just acting calm.
I really like the banter between the two of them. It makes it clear that they're good friends.
“Why - Oh yeah, first letters. Good one, Georgie!” Errr, I feel dumb, but I don't get it...
I'm impressed that they managed to finish the crossword. I hope they win!
I love slice-of-life stories, just seeing how people interact, and this one was really well-done. I got the sense I was just a fly on the wall, listening in. :)
