liebedance did this one a while ago... I never got around to doing it, but right now a) I am bored, and b) I need to do something that isn't Electromagnetism, Mechanics, or Optics! 

Pick any character from the Harry Potter / Swallows and Amazons / Lord of The Rings, Hobbit, Silmarillion / Firefly / any fandom you know I'm familiar with, and I'll answer the following questions:

1) What is your opinion of this character? If you like, explain why you like him/her.

2) Is he/she important to the general plot?

3) Can you relate to this character at all? Does he/she grip you emotionally?

4) How much do you like the fandom that this character comes from?

5) Do you ship this character with any other character? Or, are you particularly intrigued by his/her relationship with any other character(s)? (romance-wise or platonic)

6) Is there anything about the character you would change?

7) If you were in the fandom with this character or knew this character in real life, how would you see yourself interacting with him/her? Would you get along well? Fall in love with him/her? Dislike? Have a friendly rivalry?

8) Does this character make the cut as one of your all time favorites (if you like) or least favorites?

9) Would you hype up this character (if you like) or warn about this character (if you dislike) to someone new to fandom?

1. I love her. Why? I like her energy and enthusiasm, her independence, her crazy ideas, the way she does what she wants and social conventions be dammed... I just love her.

2. Important? She tends to drive the plot. Many of the holiday plans are at least partly hers (Arctic Expedition, gold mining, picts and martyrs) and when they aren't she hijacks them (Secret Water mapping).

3. I'm not much like her, so I don't relate to her naturally, but I've written from her perspective, and that helped me get inside her head.

4. Swallows and Amazons is one of my favourite book series ever.

5. John/Nancy forever. I also enjoy exploring her relationship with the other children of the group (not necessarily as children).

6. Arthur Ransome writing more about her :P

7. Hmmm... looking at how Dick and Dot (who I think I'm most like) interact with her, I'd probably look up to her a lot, and get slightly bossed around to provide scientific information on whatever her newest idea is.

8. Yes, I think she does.

9. I'd tell them that I think Nancy is awesome.

10. The fandom is fairly small, but a fair proportion of the fics involve her, so I'd say yes.

1. I like her very much! She kicks ass, she's loyal, she's snarky, she said the actual "Big Damn Heroes" quote... what's not to like?

2. Quite important... it varies between episodes.

3. I don't relate to her much, but some storylines involving her did grip me emotionally (trying to not be spoilery here).

4. Firefly! <3 The one thing I don't like about it is how little of it there is.

5. I love her marriage with Wash :)

6. The second time I went "Joss Whedon, you bastard!" while watching Serenity doesn't happen.

7. That's a pretty good question... I think I'd like her.

8. Umm... I like her... she could probably be within the favourites, but maybe not the favourite favourites. If that makes any kind of sense.

9. Probably not... I'd just tell them that Firefly is awesome. And force them to watch it :P

10. I don't really know. She's listed as a character in about 1/10 of the fics on ff.net, and 2/10 on AO3, So I'd guess about average, given there are 9 main characters. (Yes, yes, I'm a nerd. What else is new?)

Yay Zoe! I mean, you really can't dislike her, can you? I remember reading one story that described her as being very sure of herself. She knows who she is, she knows what she wants, and she doesn't let anyone stand in her way. You gotta love someone like that. :)

*sniffles* Join the denial club. IT NEVER HAPPENED! Zoe and Wash are happily married and raising little hellions of their own. *nods smartly*
